HalfAss

There’s nothing like a pun that involves physical humor – just ask Carrot Top. There’s a whole genre of “You Asked for Half a Cup of Coffee” mugs, but this one adds a baudy element with the line “For My Half-Ass Friends” Now, I would have thought it should be “Half-Assed” but why should grammar stand in the way of a perfectly good joke?

One Response to “Half a cup”

I’ve never seen one of these before. I have a zillion half coffee cups in the ‚ÄúYou Asked for Half a Cup of Coffee‚Äù genre you mention above. And I still always snap them up when I see them cheap because it astounds me how many people have never seen them before and are thrilled and amazed when you serve them exactly what they asked for.

In addition to the bad grammar of ‘half ass’ versus ‘half assed’ this rises above the norm of Kitsch in that they were obviously trying to capitalize on the trend of half cups and never questioned that drinking out of half a chamber pot might psychologically affect the taste of the coffee. Thinking about asses and what goes into the receptacle they’ve chosen to cut in half here makes me, whose favorite thing about coffee is the smell, dump mine out before the first sip.

I also always love this kind of lettering, where it looks like it’s from some kind of letter press or rubber stamp and the person doing the pressing was a little shaky. Perhaps they drank too much of the half-ass joe.
