I guess being Lisa Douglas on GREEN ACRES didn’t pay enough to put that Hungarian goulash on the table, so Eva, the “nice” Gabor sister (she didn’t slug cops like sister Zsa Zsa), went into the wig business. This silver wig is color #51 and its style is described as “Spice.” Designed by “josef of rome,” (note lower case letters), it’s made of Kanekalon Lucel, the “exclusive new modacrylic magic fiber!”

I loved Eva Gabor for her enterprising spirit and being able to be sane in spite of the fact that Zsa Zsa was her sister.

I have a few Eva Gabor wigs myself including one that came in a pink plastic carrying case one as a prize won by Carrie Fisher at one of my all girl Night of the Living N√©glig√©e parties I used to throw in the early 90′s. You can see a photo of me presenting it to her at http://www.alleewillis.com/parties/parties-negligee.htm. it’s the third photo.

I also own something even better than an Eva Gabor wig, an Eva Gabor chin strap! http://www.alleewillis.com/blog/2009/11/16/allee-willis-kitsch-o-the-day-eva-gabors-fix-a-fashion-chin-strap/

What I don’t own is the gorgeous box your wig came in. Also love that you have the little tag separated.

I encourage everyone to click on the link Allee left above of her Living Negligee party. Where else can you see Joni Mitchell and the Del Rubio triplets in the same snapshot?

And the Eva Gabor chin strap is hilarious.

  3. Allee Willis Allee Willis says:

Thank you, Douglas. Yes, the Del Rubio’s were backing Joni Mitchell with me and Bob Dylan’s at the time girlfriend as we led 100 women in pajamas in a sing-along of Mr. Shopping Spree Man, lyrics twisted from Mr. Tambourine Man.

The “negligee PJ party” clip is definately worth a visit to a “girl’s only” night out. Allee, I applaud you for documenting years and years of your personal and professional adventures.
    Real treasures!

Thanks! I’ve been documenting myself since I first got a video camera in 1978. I have almost every meeting and significant conversation I’ve had since 1990 on audio tape as well as most notes, sketches etc. though I stopped saving that stuff about 10 years ago because I couldn’t deal with my storage bills. I’ve long viewed myself as the canvas and have always been way more interested in process than the finished product so have been into digital preservation of self for two decades already.

Neato cool. I have always been a fan of wigs. I love the box and the tag.

I don’t think I have an Eva Gabor wig, but I do have one of those pink wig boxes like you are presenting to Carrie Fisher. It says “Carousel” on it. Maybe I will pull it out of the closet and take a pic.

Your party looks like the best ever, by the way.

You struck gold with this one! I do need a bit of spice in my life right now and this is just the way to achieve it, wearing this wig.
