When I was a young teen growing up in the 1960’s, my dear grandmother began giving me Avon decanter bottles of cologne and after shave as gifts for every occasion from birthdays to Christmas to school graduation. She would always point out to me that these were special collector bottles and that one day they would be very valuable. Within a few years it felt like I had just about every collector bottle that Avon produced and enough cologne and after shave to last me my entire lifetime! Unfortunately, Avon flooded the market with these bottles and nearly 40 years later they are not very valuable, however they are still fun to own.
One of my favorites of these bottles is this Rhino / Big Game decanter bottle (with it’s original box and still filled with Tai Winds after shave). Thank you, Grandma!

Gorgeous! And so perfect for the Jungle Animal Petting Zoo! This is the first rhino that’s been submitted. I still need to draw one for the Pomplamoose/AW “Jungle Animal” video and music game/contest so this will inspire me to get off my butt and do it.
How great that this was actually yours. I still think Avon collections are great. It’s true that I see lots of Avon bottles but I’ve never seen this one before. I really love it.

I love love love love love rhinos. I love the pearly, soapy sheen on him, and that silly little face. And that green illustration on the “crate” is great too, making the armoring look like leaves or something. Part of me is really glad you don’t see a lot of kitschy rhinos, but there’s that other part of me that would love a giant collection of them.
