Holden the hair out of the eyes

Forget his performance in SUNSET BLVD– bobby pin hawker is how we’ll all remember William Holden. These “Bobby Star” bobby pins are probably from 1948 given that “Dear Ruth” is the most recent credit mentioned on the card. I guess the manufacturers were trying to hit their target audience by enticing them with a cheesy 2 1/2″ black and white photo and a one paragraph bio of their favorite movie stars.

Beautiful! Not sure if I have William Holden but I have five or six of these cards with the bobby pins. I used to see them at swap meets every now and then but then about 20 years ago they all dried up. I can’t remember whether mine were all Paramount stars. I’ll look for them though I think they’re buried away in storage. If I locate them I’ll put them in my Kitsch O’ The Day blog. I know I said I would do that with the Afro funeral fans. I pulled a few out and they’re sitting here staring at me. I will get to them soon I promise…
