I love lamp.

By popular demand, here is my favorite lamp.  I’ve had it for a few years, but every night when I switch it on, I fall in love with it all over again.  I had a pink and gold flecked lamp that I had loved, but one day I came home and it was GONE and my boyfriend looked sheepish.  He had knocked into it and it smashed beyond repair, and needless to say, he was in the doghouse big time.   But a few days later we walked into an antique store, and lo and behold, there was this beauty.  Angels began to sing, the price was right, and my boyfriend was forgiven.  And the best part?  The starbursts on the glitter shade match my bar exactly…  But that’s another post for another time!

    Unbelievable lamp!!

Having started collecting Atomic artifacts in 1969 I’ve seen just about everything from that era, but not this! Both the shade and the base are SO unusual. Oftentimes I don’t swoon for 50’s lamps as they’re too clichéd and look like someone just bought them because they’re putting together a 50’s collection. But this one is beyond exceptional. As is that ashtray!!! I have hundreds and hundreds of vintage ashtrays but have never seen that one before. You know I want a much closer look at that. And, while you’re at it, need much closer examination of the ballet dancers too. I’ve seen a lot of ballet figurines but not these exact ones, which look much more elegant than most. And the match of them to the lamp is perfect.

I don’t even know what to say about the lampshade. The way it complements and works both with and against the lamp base is fantastic.

As far as the starbursts go, they’re the perfect accent. You know I want to see the bar that has them now too. I found two doorknobs from an old motel on eBay about 10 years ago that had these starbursts as the back plates. I was heartbroken when someone outbid me at the last minute. I can guarantee you that that has never happened again!

Thanks, everybody! It’s such a great lamp and it’s fun to share it with everyone!

Allee, my friend has that doorknob on her house. Her house is UH-MAZ-ING… It’s been on TV — it was built in the 50’s and has a BBQ pit shaped like a volcano in the side yard! Next time you come up, we’ll have to take you over. You’ll love Enid — her entire house is marvelous kitsch!
