My Grandparents traveled from their farm in Nebraska to visit California in about 1950.  They dressed in their best to travel.

United flew them back to Denver on what looks like a DC-3.

Absolutely love the shot of your grandparents walking into that United plane.

Is that little fence at the airport?

I took my first plane ride when I was nine years old. It was such a fancy occasion. I flew with my mother and father on Eastern Airlines to Miami Beach, where they migrated for one week every February and two weeks every July. After that trip we drove but I actually remember that very first trip to miami more because it was my first time on a plane. And my first time eating French vanilla ice cream, a phenomenon that thrilled me because of the little black dots in the ice cream. I’ve never had such a great flight or better ice cream since.

Wow, very cool! Perhaps more than anything, impressive that this was an occasion worth photographing. Very different than today!

This is incredible Mark. I’d love to see more of your family photos!

    Your Grandfather’s hat is amazing.
