It’s a Date!

In the case of this 1950 book below, you really can judge a book by it’s cover.  If teens actually behaved as they do in this collection of stories, most of us wouldn’t be around today.  These tales are filled with chaste dates, polite manners, impeccable grooming and zero sexuality.  Some of the titles include, “Age of Romance,” “Your Heart’s Out of Order,” “Love Me, Love My Car,” “Sleek Sixteen,” and “Angela Was Eighteen.”   Thank god the fifties eventually became the sixties.

    Perfect.

These are the kind of uber-Saccharine sweet graphics from back in the day that comprise so many people’s memories of the 50s. Like when restuarants try and have a 50’s feel, they interpret this end of the decade as opposed to the incredibly brilliant and fantastic modern design end.

My favorite part of the cover is “Boy–Girls Stories for the Teens”.

Oh wow, so jealous of this! a couple of weeks ago, I had a 1950’s Mental Hygiene Film Fest with my b-movie buddy….if you haven’t seen it already, definitely seek out “What to Do on a Date” this stuff kills me….in fact, find anything by Coronet Films if you need guidance….

I can’t get over the look on their faces!

Was there a big post-war innocence facade going on then? And why?

To me her face says “Climax!” and his face says “Ice Cream!”
