This needed a post all by itself. This is hands down, one of my favorite paintings at “Willis Wonderland”. This was also featured in “Down Town Julie Brown’s” show when Allee was set designer. I can’t stand it! I love this so much I am going to attempt to paint my own version of it. But NOTHING will ever compare to this original “Limbo Lady”.

Absolutely one of my prized possessions!

It was actually UPtown Julie Brown’s show, “Just Say Julie”, and it ran on MTV from 1989 through 1991. Was the very first video clips show. Here’s more stuff from the set, all handmade as well as the props by you know who: https://www.alleewillis.com/art/sets-props/index.htm and click ‘Just Say julie”

Right where the limbo rope crosses her neck the paint gets all dark and gnarly. I think the artist had a lot of trouble painting her cleavage and finally gave up and threw a limbo rope across it. It’s also wildly out of proportion. Her head is the same size as her torso. In person, she also has a unibrow and a fairly noticeable mustache because the shading is so dark.

For anyone else reading this………The limbo lady is mesmerizing. You should only be so lucky to see her in person. Truly an amazing piece and at the top of my favorite list.

It’s this and the light up velvet painting, they both make me nuts! In a good way!
