Denver Modernism Show: ’51 Studebaker Commander (Original Condition)

As you know, Allee, these beauts exhibited the epitomy of early atomic design for the American Car.  The beginning of designs that came from jet airplanes, a marketing and social phenomenon that sprung from those keen to selling cars to guys that were involved in the war, by guys that were actually in the war.I love the formal pattern of the original upholstery and the clean elegant lines of the instrument panel and dash.

The suicide doors on this model to me give it the final touch of kitsch.  Again that formal upholstery pattern, a little like grandma’s parlor.

But this close-up of the front of this vintage classic reveals the true hallmark of what makes this model remarkable.  The Bullet Nose.  Truly unique in 1950’s design.
