 What becomes of a 1955 red step stool… |
It’s beyond me how I never owned one of these despite now iconic they were and are. I never understood how they work. If the butt is already filled with red liquid what happens once the bird starts to drink? It even has its own Wikipedia entry, though the explanation is still swimming above my head. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Drinking_bird
I just have to break down and buy one of these the next time I see one. Hopefully it will come it its original home like you have.
We had one of these around when I was a kid (I’m sure it got broken at some point since I haven’t seen it in 20+ years). I don’t remember how you got it to start “drinking” but it doesn’t actually “drink”, just rocks back and forth on the pivot and *appears* to drink. Reading that Wiki entry doesn’t help my memory either!
Always loved those yet don´t own one either. I have no idea why!
