I’m a big fan of Rufus Harley and I honestly can’t remember if I’ve submitted him before. While he is by far a complete bad-ass and not kitschy for reasons of poor musicianship, it is still is pretty kitschy to be a piper with a case of the blues or trunk fulla funk. When I looked him up today I found this fantastic clip of him on I’ve Got a Secret. I’d never seen it before. Check it out.

Here’s a popular song by Mr Rufus. It’s called Malika. I’m glad to see that someone posted it and it has been viewed by so many people. I can say though that it sounds especially great on a cassette, taped from an LP, being played on a 1983 Honda Factory Radio/Cassette player. I miss my old car. Luckily it still sounds pretty good screaming out of a 1989 HOnda.

OMG!!! I can’t even believe you bring up Rufus Harley, who I have gone INSANE over for decades!!!! He was a Motown artist and had a song called “Bagpipe Blues” (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1zvRV9DSNzM) that I used to use as background music for all the short films I made. LOVVVVE Rufus H. and am awarding a Camembert not because he’s cheesy but because he’s brilliant for swinging those bagpipes! Love that you love him, Windup!

Yes, he deserves the Camembert of Awesomeness! I LOVE him and have been listening to his records for decades. And I”M not even big on the pipes, but he is just so incredible! Ha, so cool to hear that you used him in your videos…I love that! I still have a tape player in my old car, so I listen to him a lot in transit…Malika always gets me pumped! :D
