40’s Couple

I found this old, hand-tinted photograph at a yard sale yesterday.  It’s actually quite big:  18″ across and 11 1/2″ in height.  Based on the hair and the guy’s wide tie, I’d say this is probably from the 40’s.  There are a few quirky elements here.  Not sure what’s going on  with the  couch.  Any attempt at hipness with the fabric is clearly off-set by placing an enormous doily on it.  At the far right end, there’s a little figure that looks like a goat.  And I’m pretty sure that’s a little puppy (real or stuffed?) by the man’s left knee.  Also love the guy’s pinky ring.  And is the wall painted to look like a cloudy sky?

Beautiful. Love that they chose to be preserved casually instead of a still man and wife portrait.

40’s for sure. Sky wall way before it’s time.

Love the girth of the doily. And did you notice it’s got a mate on the table that the stuffed/live canine is perched up on?
