These are all of comments I've made about all the beautiful Kitsch in the Kitschenette Wing of the AWMoK:

Pepsi “License To Chill” card

  1. Yamtastic says:

I think it was intended as a discount card. On the back are logos from Subway and Wet 'n Wild.

Panasonic 8-track player “Pocketbook”

  1. Yamtastic says:

I do like the look of this one. Panasonic 8-track portables had some of the most creative designs often available in several different colors.

My player is resting on a busted copy of "Frampton Comes Alive!". About half the time when I find a stash of 8-tracks Peter Frampton's among them.

Sears 8 Track Player

  1. Yamtastic says:

Thanks, out of all my old electronics that one's probably the kitschiest but I'll keep digging.

  2. Yamtastic says:

It does have more features than your average player. I also have the Panasonic "Dynamite 8" but this one's a lot harder to find. I just enjoy all of the different, creative designs they had for 8 track portables back then.

Bagel Tray

  1. Yamtastic says:

I bought it in a retail store so I think it's new although it does have that vintage vibe to it. I like good bagels but they're hard to find in Texas. Same deal with Chinese food.

Texas Wall Hanging

  1. Yamtastic says:

The frame is wood and I think the Brahma bull was made with a wood burning kit. The old barbed wire is certainly interesting as some isn't even wire but rather flat strips of metal with barbs nearly an inch long. Get stuck by that and you might bleed to death.

And you should definitely watch King Of The Hill sometime. As a lifelong resident of the state the characters really ring true.

  2. Yamtastic says:

Sure, there were a number of cattle trails in Texas where ranchers would take their cattle to railheads in Kansas.

  3. Yamtastic says:

Thanks! Yep, there are different types of wire from different makers. Some of the names include Glidden, Reynolds, Billings, Allis and Brinkerhoff.

  4. Yamtastic says:

Nice, I was a fan of King Of The Hill from the very first episode. I always liked the little Texas references Mike Judge put in like the Casa Linda apts or the orange and white roof of a Whataburger.

The piece is about 2 feet tall on a wood base. My mom once had one that was at least twice that size but sold it.
