That is some hat the beatnik on the 1st page is wearing with his head popping out of. Looks like a plain pizza with a hole in it. And since when did pork chop sideburns and khaki shorts qualify one as a beatnik? In fact, so few of the people in the photos look like they even have any beatnik friends let alone are one of them themselves.

I love that these were in Modern Man magazine.

Make sure and check out the Beatnik category here at AWMOK.

Denny– This is wonderful! Do you own this or did you find it on-line? Do you know what year it’s from? You might want to check out a very strange film called NIGHT TIDE (1961) starring a very young Dennis Hopper which also takes place in the bohemian Venice of the early sixties. It’s the first film by Curtis Harrington who directed the kitsch classics WHOEVER SLEW AUNTIE ROO, WHAT’S THE MATTER WITH HELEN? and GAMES (which I’ve never been able to find on video or DVD.) Oh, and by the way– that building in the photo on the bottom of page 19 is still there– in fact a few years ago I had an office in the building next door.

GAMES has a really interesting cast– Simone Signoret, a young James Caan and Katherine Ross. Thanks for the info on Movies Unlimited. (I just checked and GAMES isn’t available there– I think there must be a rights issue on this movie.)

I am going to purchase “Who Slew Auntie Roo”. Thanks for reminding me Doug. Let me know if you ever come across “Games”.
