Birdemic: Shock and Terror!

If you thought THE ROOM was the worst film in recent memory, think again.  Tom Wiseau has a new contender for the Worst Director Ever in James Nguyen who is, perhaps, even a successor to Ed Wood.  Here’s a YouTube clip from the film which is an homage to Alfred Hitchcock’s THE BIRDS, but I’m hoping watching it won’t stop you from renting the actual film (on Netflix) because you really have to see it in its entirety to appreciate how low the bar has dropped in filmmaking.  Invite your friends for a screening– you won’t be disappointed.

Upon viewing this last night I have upgraded Birdemic to a Camembert!! Honestly, anyone reading this must stop what they are doing RIGHT NOW and go and see this movie on Netflix. Staggering in every way shape and form. The worst acting, the slowest driving, the seriously worse effects, worst use of licensed music, really seriously the best of the best of the worst I’ve ever seen. Thank you, Doug, for this brilliant recommendation!! If you know of any others in the same category please send them along.

The very first thing I did after watching the film was post this listing. I was in a stunned state of consciousness from having endured BIRDEMIC in its entirety but the mantra in my head said, “Must alert Allee… must alert Allee…” as I knew you would have the reaction you did. I reiterate Allee’s plea that all Akitschianados see this masterpiece.

Do we know anything at all about this BRILLIANT director, like does he have a catalog?

There is just so much to like in this film. The shootings scenes beyond killed me. From machine-gun fire when other cars are passing on the road as if nothing is wrong to shooting at that double-decker bus in order to kill the birds outside. Were they magic bullets that couldn’t penetrate glass? And that scene when all that bird goo splattered all over them and choked them to death or whatever that was supposed to be. Did those birds just spontaneously combust?

If you haven’t already returned the disc, check out the Bonus Materials because there’s an interview the director did for a cheesy cable access station in San Francisco that’s almost as good as the movie. As you might expect, the director (who I believe is Viet Namese) is everything you’d want him to be– considers himself a cinematic artist, compares himself to Hitchcock, is completely clueless. He’s directed a couple of other movies which I will try to track down.

I watched it on TV and I don’t think Netflix has special features there. Such a shame. I may have to break down and get the disk, though I don’t even think I have that plan anymore.

On another note, if you’re reading this right now, 11:36?AM, I’m about to be on The Ricki Lake Show. Last 10 minutes of the show.

Damn! Yesterday I read your post that you were going to be on, but when I went to set my DVR, the title of the Ricki Lake episode wasn’t the one you mentioned. I just missed recording today’s. Do you know if it will repeat?
