One Response to “Denny’s Adventures in Allee Willis’ “Willis Wonderland” – part 17 (May 2012)”

  1. Allee Willis

I will decorate anything, especially something like the little step up in front of the door leading to my laundry and storage rooms. It was just bare cement left when I lowered the floor in that room after finding that a false floor had been installed on top of the original 1937 one. Originally it was just plain smooth cement but as the floor was drying I thought that I couldn’t just leave it that way so ran and got all of my spare change and started pressing everything in.

Not only is the door great because of the original paneling but the original 1960’s Soul Charmette car deodorizer display complete with all of individual packets hanging on it is pretty great too. Also the solid metal Nedicks hot dog handle taken from the restaurant that used to be on the ground floor of Macy’s on 34th St. and Broadway where there was a fire in 1991. I got both of the door handles on eBay about 15 years after that. I was very excited because no doubt my hands had been on those handles a trillion times as I always went there for hot dogs when I lived in Manhattan.
