One of my favorite actors was Danny Kaye and I had a chance to see him in person in San Francisco in 1947.  I had seen all of his movies. One day at a thrift shop,  I found the sound track for “Hans Christian Anderson” on a boxed three 45 rpm recording…and only 25 cents. Really made my day!

    I have a soft spot for Hans Christian Anderson because it was one of the first 3 movies I ever saw, along with Bambi and Creature from the Black Lagoon. Now there’s a good combo!

    Hans Christian Anderson made a real impression on me because I saw it at a drive-in, where I had never been before and still have the urge to go to constantly. I was very young but even then the music from this film made a huge impression on me and I understood that a body of music could make quite an impact. Every single song is a killer, though Wonderful Copenhagen was my favorite.

      Wow, wasn’t Bambi beautiful!?! Been awhile since I’ve seen it, but what always gets me is the rain…back then, the animation skill required!?!?!…I just can’t get my head around it! The rain they made in that film is just mind boggling…

      Sure wish we still had more drive ins…the last time i went to one, I saw Ghostbusters fromt he front seat of a 63 Chevy Nova. :) I don’t even care for movies theaters now….how can it ever compare!?!?!

    Me too. Loved Danny Kaye, loved this movie and loved the songs too (especially Wonderful Copenhagen and Inch Worm.) I also had a Danny Kaye album for kids entitled, “Mommy, Gimme a Drinka Water” that I actually still listen to, to this day. The songs are brilliantly written and his performance is stellar. Has anyone else heard the rumor that Kaye and Lawrence Oliver were lovers?

    Frank Loesser wrote the songs for the film Hans Christian Andersen, if I remember correctly. I loved that film too! I have a handful of Danny Kaye’s children’s records…I’ve always loved them…My favorites were Grimm’s Fairy Tales and Tubby the Tuba…I think Danny Kaye is one the most talented and musical performers ever…a real gift to those of us who admire such things!
