What I love most about this Muffler Car is that rather then customizing the vehicle by placing objects on top the creator built one entirely new object . Kitsch cars is one of my favorite categories of Kitsch. I love them whether they’re covered with Astroturf, doorknobs, religious memorabilia or whatever the idiosyncratic brain of the creator led them to create.

I customized several cars myself for rock videos, The Car’s “You Are The Girl”, where I turned a golf cart into a rocket ship, and the-oft-nominated-but-never-quite-award-winning Breakfast Club’s “Right On Track”, where I mutated a beat up Dodge into a ginormous finned, bowling ball and trophy covered ride. (Both are viewable at https://www.alleewillis.com/art/sets-props/index.htm, top row leftmost links.) But I love the simplicity of this muffler car, especially how wide its cheeks get compared to the windshield and how happy its smile is.

If you ever stumble across a side view of this car I’d kill to see it. I wish it were in my driveway right now.

I love this. I always wonder what they started with, and try to find hints in the design of what might not have been changed, but in this case the windshield doesn’t give a clue either because it looks like it was bolted on! Very cool!
