Tiki bathroom

This is a tiki bathroom, a room filled with tiki mugs, vintage aquarium ornaments, model ships, tiki masks, ceramic mermaids, plastic fish wall plaques and all things tropical (including a very beautiful and classy acrylic toilet seat cover embedded with sea shells, and a tiki face toilet paper dispenser). Guess I got a bit carried away by posting so many photos (trust me, I could have posted twice as many), but I wanted to try to give you a feel for this room. Wherever I’m taking a shower or on the throne, I feel like I’ve been transported off to Hawaii or some exotic south seas island! Everything is tropical from the rugs to the shower curtain down to the toothbrush holder and the Old Spice shaving mug. This room is truly a kitsch paradise! Just for the record, my partner and I built all the display shelves including the shelf cabinet with the grass roof (he even hand-carved the little tiki in the center). btw, “Mr. Peabody and the Mermaid” is one of my favorite childhood movies (a wonderful and campy fantasy classic), but sadly it has never been released on DVD. :(

Really exceptional. Excellent use of every space to the extreme of the hat hanging over the shower head. What people who have decorators miss is this concept of creating your own space so you’re transported elsewhere on a regular basis. You get to the south seas every time nature calls. Also excellent that you built your own thatch-hatted shelves.

I oftentimes don’t like tiki collections as they can easily look like someone just went to a party store and bought a bunch of plastic junk but you have some really unusual stuff like the tiki head toilet paper holder and that fish with the spiky things pouring out of it’s middle in the second-to-last photo.

I never even heard of Mr Peabody and the Mermaid. Does it ever run on tv?

I love that the Drink Bot snuck in there.

Mr. Peabody and the Mermaid is a little-known black and white movie from 1948. It is a fantasy comedy, funny and wistful and somewhat campy. William Powell plays a 50 year old man having a mid-life crisis who snags a beautiful mermaid while alone on a fishing trip. He rescues the mermaid, then keeps her a secret from his wife and friends. In the end, he returns the mermaid back to the sea, and no one will believe his story.

Once in a blue moon this movie shows up on television.
