I had a poster on my bedroom door done by Peter Max in the 60's that said that!
Okay not me either really, I just thought it was romantic that even just the thought of her bible gave him an erection.
As the Wazee Supper Club it's only been about 30 years. 25 years ago I would go with my cronies and drink beer and eat pizza about once a month there. They still have good pizza, had some their last December.
They did tear down the viaduct that mostly hid the building those days, Denver did a good job of preserving a lot of their old buildings in what has become known as "LODO," which is short for Lower Downtown. Here's a link that shows the viaduct that hid it back in the day: http://denverphotoarchives.com/blog/2010/october.html#15th_Street_Viaduct
One does what one can.
I think the one with the big blue eyes has a little bit of a come hither look. And Mr. Bow Tie isn't grumpy as much as skeptical of Blue Eye's motives.
Allee where was this, and are they still on display?
I wonder if the sandwich is
turkey, bacon, and avacado, or
turkey bacon and avacado.
This place is great. It's a younger person's hang out now after being an older crowd for decades.
Poker, shuffleboard, sticky floors, smoky rooms. It's got it all goin' on.
The building is rustic to nondescript. Half-log siding, the whole thing painted dark brown, and the front windows, as I mentioned, are permanently shuttered. This makes me a little sad because I'm sure that at one time the place had much more character in terms of the outside appearance.
This place is your home for "regulars."
Oh my gosh that dorm-that isn't right. Look how the turquoise in the old pic is enhanced by the lake. I love that lake, but I'll bet it got cold and windy about mid terms!
Is that your U.S. Postal Service hat?
I love that mosaic work in Lombardino's. That and terazzo are things not used in newer buildings that I love.
Chiat/Day is where my friend Chuck Bennett conceived of the Taco Bell dog highlighted in my post "Strung Out Fast Food Chihuahua." His Mom and my Mom are best friends in Nebraska. I want to go see this now-next week when I'm there for sure. Great post Mr. Wood.
I am actually looking forward to the shorter daylight hours as I travel this winter so there will be more opportunities to capture signs that are fired up.
Even if I'm not coming or going on 99 one of these winter evenings when I'm in Seattle I'll drive over to see it!
And to your point, I'll take a closer look one day as well to see if I can answer the question about slapping something on later.
Have fun in Madison, I can't wait to see the video. You will be spectacular!
I love it, and would've rolled it home and put it on the wall of my man cave asap. Score!
