What becomes of a 1955 red step stool. The bottom photo shows an ad when it was selling brand new in a 1955 Better Homes and Garden mag I posted days ago.

I went to a great tag sale yesterday. As I was roaming around the house, I opened a closet door and this is what I found…just as you see it. Thankfully I had my camera to share this with you. Love the added paint dribble. It adds to its character don’t you think?

Although I get very upset when the first glob of paint splatters on something like a spanking new red step stool, once enough paint splatters on it I get into it in a completely different way as a fantastic and soulful utilitarian piece. This is what leads me to buy two of anything that I’m completely insane about. Of course, storage is a whole other matter. But this step stool is so classic, if I had one I would most certainly have two and keep one as a pristine saftey.

I’m completly certain that growing up we had this stool in both yellow and blue.

We had one of these exact red footstools along with a chrome and red marble top table with four matching chairs for several years. It was all done in the original upholstery and was in mint condition, then in a moment of weakness, we sold the the entire set at a yard sale for $35. I have no idea what we were thinking.
