Hysterical. Don’t sign painters realize they haven’t left enough space between words??

  2. Damn, we need a farmersexchange where I live! I’d hang around the back door waiting for new guy farmers to emerge.

This is actually a picture of the town I grew up in, but from the 1920′s.

This was the “fall festival,” which later became called the “harvest festival,” which later, when I was a kid, because of the abundance of farms that raised turkeys, was called “Turkey Days.” Not kidding. One year at the turkey bbq everybody got salmonella poisoning because they just put the turkey meat 4 feet into the ground with coals for several days and called it good enough to feed 10,000 people.

The bandstand, which you see in this picture, was still in use in the late 60′s and early 70′s when I was a kid. It had metal wheels, and rolled quite nicely. And it floated. But that’s another post.

  4. OMG, Mark, that salmonella story is just horrifying! Was the event called “Blood Pooping Days” after that?

They still have Turkey Days, but now they have it in June, and I’m told they merely heat up the pre-cooked turkey rolls. I haven’t attended in 35 years. I guess in the 60′s people weren’t as litigious as they are today, because now that I think about it, everybody just shook there heads and said that didn’t work, and only about one person died, so it was just a scare I guess.
