Campy Van de Kamps

I bought these vintage photographs at the estate sale of the original photographer who had recently passed away.  Los Angelinos will recognize the ersatz Dutch architecture of these bakery buildings.   Lascivious Doris Young (below) demonstrates that as bread is concerned, size matters.

Not sure if this bakery (below) still exists or not.

The handwritten note on the back of the photo below says, “Factory to You.  Entrance way to the Los Angeles Van de Kamp factory on Fletcher Drive.  Architecture is traditional Dutch.”

Love these photos. Incredible that you bought them from the photographer who took them. Did you get other ones as well? And did the photographer specializing in advertising photos?

I used to pass the original Vand de Kamps on Fletcher all the time going down to what used to be my favorite thrift shops on San Fernando Rd. heading downtown. I haven’t gone that way in at least 15 years but I wouldn’t be surprised if that building were still there. I don’t remember seeing the small drive-in part but I do remember a rather large building.

Lascivious Dois Young seems very happy with the size of her loaf.

When I left Culver City in 2003 the building on Fletcher housed a bunch of different high end furniture stores. Now it’s used as part of Los Angeles Community College. However, it looks just the same.
