I just love this video, the Welshman Tom Jones , who was always my mothers favourite, she would swoon over his voice on the radio, and the most gorgeous Raquel shimmying away ….

This is from literally one the greatest and most mindblowing TV specials ever made. If you haven’t seen it, you MUST track it down, take some sedation and watch NOW. Simply called “Raquel!” This is the tamest number in the show. Most involve elaborate settings and costumes. Seriously outrageous and mostly ill-conceived. If it were Cher, maybe…

I just wrote a mini review of ‘Raquel!” for the TED conference in Palm Springs this last week. I didn’t attend because of ungodly pressing deadlines but here is what I have to say about RAQUEL!

“Raquel! Starring Raquel Welch, 1970 – A staggering display of ego and choreography seen in massive crane shots of London, Paris, Acapulco, Mexico City, Yucatan, Big Sur and LA, all featured as much as its star. Musical cheese, decadance and elegance rolled into one jawdropping Raquel, with the aid of Tom Jones, John Wayne and Bob Hope. Classic rock songs gone awry accented by a Bob Mackie wardrobe that would make Cher drool.”

Nice capsulized account of this tv oddity. I remember watching this when it aired and even as a kid I knew it was way over the top.

Oh yeah, this is great. Don’t recall seeing it when it originally aired tho i’ve been a long time Tom Jones and Raquel fan. Did finally see Tom at Jazz Fest 2010 closing out the first Sunday. Panties were thrown at the stage(during Delilah), i just wasn’t quick enough with the camera to get the evidence of that tho. Fine show that i stayed the whole set for….missing Arlo Guthrie, but there are hard choices to make on the Fairgrounds…..now if Tom would have had Raquel with him, that would have been too much.
