Louis Armstrong!
This one supposedly prolonged to Louis himself. He had figures of him and his band that he would set up in the lobby of any place they performed. As he was one of the biggest acts of the 20th century this definitely got around. I had the bass player as well but he was smashed in shipping. Heartbreaking!
There are many repro versions of the statue, albeit all of them much smaller. I will never know for sure if this was the real thing but from the composition material it’s made with I’m voting yes.
Do you know anyone that owns any of these? Can these still be found out there for sale?
You can still find the smaller ones, about 16″ tall around. I see them at swap meets every so often. There were also newer repro ones made.
