Ben Cooper Halloween Costume

Here I am wearing a classic Ben Cooper Halloween costume from the late 1960’s. I used to love the ritual of choosing a boxed costume (at Kiddy World or White Front Department store) and believing it would transform me into something awesome. I love that this picture was taken in front of the family organ.

To this day I love Ben Cooper Halloween costumes. I always loved the graphics. I always loved that much of the suits are just colored nylon or whatever that shiny material is that candy can melt on and be wiped off with the flick of a sponge. I love the boxes they came in too. I still get a thrill when I walk down store aisles filled with boxed Halloween costumes. Though so few of the contemporary ones even hold a candle to what was going on with Ben Cooper.

I agree, it’s always nice to pose in front of an organ. Do you remember what make yours was? Who in the family played?

I think it was a Thomas Organ. My Dad would entertain guests and family members on it. He would perform amazing cresendos in his songs. He was not classically trained, but could play by ear.I messed around on it and loved the foot peddles mostly.

Thomas organs were in many a living room indeed.

I never learned how to play any keyboard but organs are, without question, my favorite. There was no way I was ever going to be able to coordinate two hands on the keys, not to mention pushing buttons all the while, at the same time as having to have my feet master the foot pedals. But it’s an instrument I find ever fascinating.

Organs ARE fascinating. My parents used to take our family out to eat at a pizza parlor that had a huge pipe organ where the organist would entertain us while we ate our pizza.
