This corny little kid is chalkware and has a hook sticking out of the bottom. He doesn’t have any marks or anything, but he sure loves his corn on the cob. I hear there’s a girl-version of this, too, though I’ve never seen one. His chalkware is so fragile and chip-able that I’ve never hung anything on his hook, though I guess he could hold a pot-holder or something. He’s a little creepy, like his eyes might follow you across the room.

I have a bunch of these vintage plaster hook face people. The most common ones are mammies, chefs and anthropomorphic fruit with faces. There were usually potholders or plastic measuring spoons hanging on the hook when originally sold. And if there was a boy it was fairly certain there was also a girl as these were usually sold in pairs. This one is amazing as, as you say, chalkware is so chip prone that many of these vintage ones look like they’re in dire need of plastic surgery.
