Chalkware Swan Bathometer

My grandma had this hanging in her bathroom for as long as I can remember. She usually liked to keep the temperature around “Soak & Sleep”, which was always a little too hot for me! I like this thing a lot and would always carefully examine it when I took a bath at my grandma’s house. It’s in very good shape, I have no idea how old it is. Older than me, at least!

These kind of chalkware thermometers were all the rage in 1940’s, 50’s and 60’s bathrooms. This one is in particularly beautiful condition as more often than not you find these with the paper behind the thermometer curled up and disintegrating. And I love the pink, green and white together too.

Excellent listing the bathwater temperature preferences as it’s much more relevant to the swan’s immediate environment than telling me the temperature in the room.
