I’m thinking maybe ’50s…

I love the modern lines on this piece. The artist did a great job with the glazes too. A mold number 1197 on the bottom. It’s only 5″ across. From an estate sale 2 years ago. I’m thinking maybe ’50s.

I would definitely say 50’s because of the atomic shape.

Although it’s small it also looks like it’s heavy. is it?

The glaze is amazing. Can’t tell for sure because of the size but is it just marbleized or is that white in the design something like ribbons?

Always nice when these pieces have lids.

It weighs about a pound. In studying it closely, the lightest green went on first, then darker greens were applied with various textured. Just a guess but the random ribbon effect was created by rotating the side of a really narrow, long hair brush. On the lid, perhaps the darker greens were added after, leaving the base color exposed, or, the glaze was lifted with a dry brush, creating the ribbons before the glaze dried. It’s a mystery to me. What do you think??

My hallmark is always being imprecise so as much work as I’ve done in ceramics it was always according to my own rules and not the way an artist who was schooled in the art form would have proceeded. So unfortunately I’m not of much help here. But I sure like what’s going on on the dish!
