Owls on high…. shelf

Have you ever noticed that if you spend so much time around someplace it becomes normal? And then only later do you realize how offbeat it is? So it is with my parents’ house. My parents bought their house in 1967 and, while they did a makeover in the late 80s, much of the decor remained consistent. Such as these owls, which perch atop the bookshelves in the kitchen. I know the wood one was a kit we made with my mom when we were kids; I don’t know where the others came from, except they’ve been there as long as I can remember, so they must be late 60s/early 70s. In the photos, the owls are resting on nondescript stereo speakers, but you can see the avocado stained walls and the beams of the cathedral ceilings.
