Printer’s Tray Collection Box

In the 60’s and 70’s there was a fad of using antique printer’s trays to show off your collection of  small items. The trays are still in demand as proved by their sale on eBay.  Mine is 16 1/2″ x 32″.  When I bought it, there  was an ink stain which I removed with oxalic  acid.  I later found a brass door pull and attached it.  A few of the items in my Kitsch  group are in the picture, notably the rock owls.

I fell right into that fad. One of the first things I remember ever finding in a thrift shop was one of these printer trays. When I first started collecting I lived in a small apartment in Manhattan on 69th St. between Central Park West and Columbus. Because there was so little room, my very first pieces were miniature toys, charms and cracker Jack prizes, all of which I displayed in the tray.

There looks like there’s a whole lot of stuff that we need to see bigger here at AWMOK in the tray! I do see the trusty little Tabasco bottle resting there too.
