Superman Kryptonite Rocks

These are some Superman “Kryptonite” rocks that were offered in comic book ads. They were out in the 70s around the same time Pet Rock fad was in full swing. The company charged $2.50 (plus shipping) for what amounted to rocks painted with glow in the dark paint. According to the ads and the provided booklet you were buying these pieces of “Kryptonite” to keeping them safely away from Superman’s enemies. Luckily none of his enemies saw the ad I guess.

I love that this came out in the wake of Pet Rock mania so Superman could get in on the action. Nothing like offering kids a toy that’s an actual rock painted with glow-in-the-dark paint that undoubtedly rubs off on their hands over time making them ill unless a flying rock to the head doesn’t kill them first.

I Love it! Again, it’s all about the packaging. If it was “Krypton Air” in a box, it would sell, and the shipping would have been less.
