Lobster Serving Dish

This was in a box of absolute junk at an auction I went to last week. I got outbid on the box of junk, but the lucky winner of said box of junk was nice enough to sell me this dish. I like how his claws hold toothpicks… though the holes are a little too big and they slip through, so maybe I need some cocktail picks or something. It really looks like he’s delicately pinching them. Also, he’s totally lopsided, so he rocks and rolls all over the counter. I can’t wait to make something and serve it in this thing.

I’ve seen a lot of lobster serving dishes but never one with holes for toothpicks. When you say that the holes are a little big they’re not big enough for the things you used to crack the shells that I can’t remember the name of right now are they? I love love love lobster serving dishes, of which I have two. Now I want to go drill holes in the claws.

I can’t imagine anything in that box being better than this dish. What on earth did the person who bought the box want so much in there that they could give this away?

How big is the bowl part? Could you stick Drunken Cucumber Man Dip in there? https://www.alleewillis.com/awmok/kitschenette/2010/03/13/drunken-cucumber-man/

I don’t know if there was anything else good in the box. Maybe some vaguely moldy old linens and some wooden paper towel holders or something. The guy is a flea market-vending regular so I probably would have bought it off of him one way or another.

The holes do seem a little too big for modern toothpicks. I’m not sure if they’d hold anything else any better. The bowl itself is about 3″ or so across, kind of small.. so it would only be suitable for a mini-drunken cucumber man. I was thinking of lobster fritters or something else you could stab with a pick.

Fabulous find Nessa! You got THE best piece in the box I’m sure. Great color & shape. Toothpicks for crab or lobster balls maybe? It reminds be of a movie I just got from the library yesterday. A 1957 B&W “Attack of the Crab Monster”. I’ll snap a pic and send it in now.

I like that the library is carrying movies like the classic ‚ÄúAttack of the Crab Monster‚Äù. In general, anything that starts with “Attach of the…” has excellent Kitsch possibilities, especially if made in 1957, the heyday of “Attack of the…” movies.

wow, that’s great! i love how his arms are splayed so far apart (a position you rarely see a crab take!)
as far as movies go, ya gotta try Teenagers from Outerspace…there’s a seriously cool lobster in that one!!!!

See, I live on Cape Cod, so therefore I have a special fondness for this creature! I would absolutely display this! I think the lobster should be our state mascot and boy oh boy, was this an incredible find!
