I have always been a huge fan of King Ludwig II, since I saw Neuschwanstein Castle in is one and my fascination grew. Three years ago I visited both Neuschwanstein Castle and Linderhof Palace. This Grotto took my breath away. I believe it was constructed in 1878 and was lit by coloured lamps, it was also heated by small ovens in the stalactites. Just for added excitement it had a wave machine and Ludwig would sit in the boat and listen to Wagner.

I never saw Chitty Chitty Bang Bang, I’m not much of a world traveler and I don’t like classical music but I sure love places that look like this! This fits the quintessential and more classic definition of Kitsch – so completely overdone and dripping with glitz. Not to mention complete with wave machine and colored lights with a hit of the Playboy Mansion grotto. Where I HAVE been. It’s not quite as over-the-top as this but a Kitsch monument to say the least.
