If Seurat had a cable show on Comedy Central…

The artist of this oil-on-canvas portrait was told by her art teacher to create a painting in the style of the French Impressionists. ‘Ya gotta love her for choosing to execute the assignment by going totally low-brow and recreating the foul-mouthed Cartman from SOUTH PARK in Pointillism, no less. I bought the painting from her for $2.00, which I thought was a steal, considering she got an A- on it. (Grade is marked on the back.)

FANTASTIC! I’ve long viewed the combination of the sacred and profane, the high and low, the professional and the auteur as the secret to ultimate success and freedom. Well worth the $2. I would have graded her an A+.

This is great…so smart.. Did she tell you, or can you guess her age/grade?
Wondering where the inspiration came from, if her class had been to a Seurat Museum exhibit, or if they were studying French Impressionists? And she has a great sense of humor too…

The artist was the one who sold it to me, at her garage sale. Obviously, she was very humble about her work, as I didn’t have to haggle at all– when I asked the price she said $2.00 right off the bat, which was sweet. She told me it was from her art class– the grade is actually written on the back in black marker. I expressed dismay re: the minus and told her she deserved a full A.
