Mermaid Wall Sculptures

Submitted by Michael M. July 19th, 2010

I’ve been fascinated by anything mermaid all my life. These wooden mermaid plaques were the ugliest mermaids I’d ever seen. I love how she’s holding her breasts as she swims. I know they’re old but I can’t identify their year or origin.

These look very 1920’s. If they are, they go from ugly to beautiful. If they are just some hippie carving from the 1960s I think they’re still pretty good looking though not as fabulous as if they really are from the 20’s. And yes, love the breast holding!

so jealous I’ve been looking for these kind of mermaids ever since seeing similar ones on houses on Wall street in Stonington, CT. I tried to ask the owner where he got them but he said his wife got them and looked at me like a weirdo kitsch stalker so I gave up. If anyone knows where I can buy similar ones I’d really appreciate it-I’ll send you a signed copy of my Mermaid children’s book “Three Little Mermaids” for the lead-thanks!
