Before it was called MasterCard, it was called MasterCharge. Crocker National Bank and First Interstate Bank (both now gone, merged into Union Bank of California, and Wells Fargo,) launched it to compete with Bank of America’s BankAmericard. Life was simpler then. At least for me in the 8th grade.
