Desert Garden

I realize that one usually finds gnomes and fairies in flower gardens, but we have them here too in Tucson rock gardens. As you can see, my partner and I have a typical Arizona desert garden in our backyard (filled with rock and boulders and cactus and yucca trees) as well as a typical old-school Arizona flagstone patio with an outdoor fire pit (which we built ourselves), but that wasn’t going to stop us from incorporating some forest gnomes and fairies and other whimsical stuff into our yard including ceramic mushrooms, a birdbath full of sand and seashells, frolicking frogs, an old plaster flamingo (standing on metal rods), a flower pot made of shells, a birdhouse pottery shelf, a ceramic pumpkin head wearing a tin cowboy hat, an old plaster donkey (with one broken leg), etc. How we love to sit out on our patio and watch a gorgeous Tucson sunset, and then light a fire under the desert stars, listening to the coyotes howl (for real), all the little gnomes and fairies and frogs and critters lit up by tiny Malibu lights. The garden becomes very magical in the dark.

Thank you, Allee. Thank you for the award, and thank you for giving me a place to share my craziness with others. You have no idea how happy I feel coming to your site everyday to indulge my love of kitsch, to share and to see what others have to share. Coming to your site always puts a smile on my face and starts my day off right.

Love reading that, Michael. Especially as I’m on my way to a memorial for one of the aKitschinados here, Monica Johnson, who sadly passed away a few weeks ago. She shared a lot of her art here and was very hidden about her true identity, a brilliant comedy writer who, among MANY other things, co-wrote the great Albert Brooks movies. Check out the kitsch creations she posted at AWMOK. It will put even more of a smile on your face. She would’ve loved your garden too. https://www.alleewillis.com/awmok/kitschenette/author/monica-johnson/
