Here’s a favorite from the early 40s. Ella Neal wears one just like it in The Mysterious Dr Satan series and she looks so fabulous! I love the size of the brim and the shape (the brim is very narrow at the back and huge in the front). I bought it to match a suit I had; the color matching was remarkable! The suit was from the late 40s and it was a textured silk that was the exact color of the straw of this hat. The suit was also trimmed in velvet in the exact color of the velvet ribbon on this hat too…The suit, sadly is no more, but the hat remains in perfect condition…
As long as I’m posting straw hats, here’s one from the sixties…It looks like a top hat and it’s cute and mod….Would look lovely on someone like Audrey Hepburn (Of course, wouldn’t anything!?) but as much as I like it, it’s never looked good on me…I’m just too stout and don’t have right lines for it…I honestly look like the mayor of munchkin city…So, in storage it remains…:D
Here’s another straw hat from the 50’s…This hat is quite small and I love it! I call it my owl hat since I’ve always thought of the back as looking like an owl’s face (the velvet ribbon should be laying flat and it looks more like a beak that way)…such an interesting design! This too looks awful on me as I have a big old head! But, I love it anyway….The feathers have rhinestones glued to them..can’t believe this hat is still in tact!
Ok, one more straw hat…This is from the 50’s and looks old ladyish or church lady, even frumpy (as someone once described it!) but I’ve worn it a lot. I think it’s really sweet and proper looking and it matches everything. It’s hard to have bad manners when wearing this hat ;) I love the veil…I always love veils!

I must preface all of this by saying that in antique hats, straw has traditionally not been my favorite material. I do like them if they get outrageous but if left to my own devices I always go for something like felt first. But with this said you got some cuties here.
I never heard of The Mysterious Dr Satan but I like the hat enough that it’s piqued my interest.
That ribbon formation in the back of hat number one is pretty wild.
The second hat looks like what Diane Keaton might choose to wear if she were in a country film.
The third hat is adorable. (Though I wish it were made out of white felt!)
I really like the fourth hat. It so easily looks like it could be made out of fabric. Is it black or deep purple? And those old hat boxes I see poking out behind the model?
