First of all, that’s one beautiful instrument ! Second, I can’t even make myself look at these links because I have a massive day today so shouldn’t be looking at a great estate sale filled with things that I will probably love and shouldn’t be buying.

From this one photo though I’m absolutely dying because all around this incredible instrument, which at first I thought was an accordion but then didn’t think was one, is a plethora of vintage accordions. that’s an instrument I’ve always wanted to own but knew I would never learn how to play as I’ve never learned how to play any instrument (other than I’m a killer percussionist). And I certainly have no room for accordions to lay around. But I do love that you keep us abreast of auctions.

I’m actually heading to Texas in about a week. I’m speaking at SXSW in Austin on the 15th. I arrive the night before and leave the next day, which means I’ll just have a couple hours to see the city which I’ve never seen before and hop back on the plane. So no auctions, no accordions, and very little Austin for me.

I do love that period for Lawrence Welk and company.

Oh, wow, K2, this is incredible! Ya know, I am an accordion worshipper, myself and I can tell you that a lot of these, though beautiful are not always preserved enough to play…they get moldy etc and often can’t be salvaged for anything but their looks, which is enough, though, right!!!??!!

Absolutely gorgeous…can’t wait to check out the links to the hats, but you knew that! :D I presume you’re talking about Myron Floren on Welk? He was THE MAN!!!!!!

OH MAW GAWD. Ok, I just checked the link…This is the Gabbanelli estate!!!!!!!??????????????????!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Wow, this is breaking my heart….I really hope these accordions find good homes…..

Gabbenelli was a very well known accordion maker…made some beautiful things!!!!!!! I bet most of what’s on sale were his.they look old, but the pics aren’t great: it’s hard to tell…I think he was making them from the 60’s? on…….I don’t know if he’s still alive, but I’m guessing not considering the whole estate is being liquidated……so sad to me to see the pics of the all things and the empty house…there’s something kinda disrespectful about it to me…..but yeah, what a lot of fabulous things! I hope they find good homes…..

So he probably made the accordions there and these were his personal favorites that he kept. Now it really makes me ill I can’t get one. But pennies must be pinched…
