Onion Foursome with ‘tude

I found this complete set (salt and pepper shakers and oil and vinegar cruets) at a garage sale last week and snapped them up immediately.  The anthropomorphic onions were made by Relco in Japan and are in perfect condition.  I guess the message here is that pepper and vinegar are more volatile than salt and oil?

    Oh boy, totally jealous here!

Amazing that you found the entire set. I love that they group the pepper and vinegar together in their sad faces. I would make the same choice.

I love the individual handpainting. Really expressive. And excellent that they’ve given everyone two arms.

How tall are the oil and vinegar onions?

O & V are 5 1/2″ tall. Just realized this sort of fits into the Mother’s Day theme for today. The Oil figure is clearly the long-suffering, but still cheerful wife and mother to an emotionally draining family.

I have seen these at the antique malls before.. and I always consider buying them, but they always seem to be very pricey. Someday I’ll find a cheaper set!

I got these really cheaply because they were at a garage sale, not an antique mall. I’ll try and send the cheap bargain karma your way (and if I ever find another set I’ll grab them for you.)
