Old Building in New Bedford

I love these types of old buildings. I think this building, that stands on a corner, was once an old department store as these windows look to me like they once held displays?

Gorgeous. What are the maroon and cream-colored rectangles made out of? Almost looks like tile. Or is it colored glass?

Do you know when the building was built? I would guess in 1930’s or 40’s. Love that the old insurance poster is still in the window.

I’m quite sure this opaque, colored glass is “vitrolite”. Your can still find this in wonderful older upscale homes in kitchen and bathrooms dating from the late 40’s or early 50’s era or exterior store fronts like this. Sadly, many folks renovated homes in the 60’s and discarded these heavy 3/8″ thick glass blocks. I’ve seen them at salvege yards.

I wanna say 30’s and am basing that on dates I have seen around town. I didn’t actually go over to it, I shot it from afar. This stuff, along with display windows ran the length of the building which was pretty long.

Nessa……found about 75 vintage pics today. There were a few that were a tiny bit kooky. Will post soon.
