Aladdin’s Lamp in Venice

Found this huge metallic Aladdin’s Lamp sitting in front of a little house in Venice, California yesterday while yard sale hopping. Looks like it might’ve been a sign over a motel, casino or restaurant. Even with the huge lamp, this is one of Venice’s more conservative dwellings. Something tells me the Genie inside is probably a surfer in his spare time.

OMG! I’d kill for that sign! Can you imagine the flames flickering?! And it looks like there was neon tubing forming an outline around the lamp. Is the thing just resting there on the sidewalk? That’s what it looks like. They’re lucky I don’t live in that neighborhood.

It’s a shame not to see this lit up sitting high in the air but, on the other hand, it’s so spectacular because it’s as high as the house and looks so surreal behind a chain-link fence.

I wish we could see more in the windows. There does look like some potential right next to the flame, like maybe a 1950s blond wood cabinet or something. Or maybe it’s just a reflection of something across the street. Whatever the case, I love that the homeowner has left the plant in back of the genie lamp grow high enough so it looks like it has hair.

The colors of this are spectacular!
