Sweet Melodies

I can’t believe I haven’t submitted the glorious Florence Foster Jenkins until now…Where have I been!? She is one of my favorite sopranos of all time and quite the character. Florence was wealthy by inheritance and like any true artist, put her money where her was. Her art, by the way, in case it’s difficult to tell, was her voice. Her critics were many, laughter in the audience was often dismissed by the diva as “jealousy” and she did seem to be her own biggest fan. Her famous quote was something to the effect of of, “There are many who say I can’t sing, but no one can say I haven’t sung”. She made her own elaborate costumes, did things like rent out Carnegie Hall to give recitals and she did have a following…Legend has it though, that her rather accomplished accompanist preferred to remain anonymous…go figure…

Cover the ears of all your pets and listen……..

Too bad I wasn’t around in Flo’s day. I would have done exactly the same thing with her as I did with the Del Rubio Triplets, so astoundingly off is her voice. Nowhere near as bad as it could be but I’m sure she sent a lot of listeners running to their doctors with bleeding eardrums.

I love her quote, “There are many who say I can’t sing, but no one can say I haven’t sung”.

You go, Flo! I always like confidence in someone who loves what they do and doesn’t let anything stop them from doing it!

And, in case you don’t know The Del Rubio Triplets, https://www.alleewillis.com/awmok/kitschenette/2011/01/10/allee-willis-kitsch-o-the-day-the-del-rubio-triplets-and-a-valentines-day-card-for-milly/

Isn’t she fabulous!?! I totally admire anyone who does something like she did…I think she was great and yeah, her costumes were not to be reckoned with! She’s truly an inspiration and her recording make me scream with laughter every time…
